The Story
Located on the north-east side of Toronto is the quiet family friendly neighbourhood called, “Leaside”. In 1819, John Lea who was a pioneer farmer emigrated to this area with his family and built a huge mansion which is still standing to this day near Leaside Memorial Gardens. The land was used for training the Canadian pilots during World War I. After the war, the area was then constructed to house its ever-growing population. Leaside real estate is primarily Tudor style homes most of them were built in the 1920s and 1930s on large plots with private driveways. Known to have some of the nicest rental apartments in Toronto located on Bayview Avenue and Leacrest Road that overlook the Don Valley ravine.
The Convenience
On Bayview Avenue, you can find many specialty stores, pubs and antique shops that attracts people from all over. Leaside residents also enjoy shopping along Eglington Avenue that features an equally excellent shopping experience. Leaside Memorial Community Gardens is the local community centre that has a skating rink, curling, auditorium and swimming pool. There are several parks such as Sunnybrook Park that offer an array of different activities for all ages. There is an excellent public transit system as buses slither their way through the residential streets. The Don Valley Parkway is just minutes away, making the trip by car to downtown Toronto, a short lived drive. To accommodate those flocking to the area, there are newly built condominiums and townhomes on the periphery of the neighbourhood.
The Residents
The locals consist of upper to middle-class looking to raise their families in a family oriented area without sacrificing the convenience of living near the downtown core.
